I’ve long wanted to shoot the home of Annika & Tom Speakman – model/mum & commercial real estate agent. We are lucky enough to call them good friends and have spent plenty of time at their place…we even lived together at our house for the good part of a year too! Anyway, there is something really homely and cozy about their house. It is full of beautiful furniture and objects, but is really humbly pared back with family photos, keepsakes, travel mementos and even some side of the road finds. I love that their place is really lived in, not too precious and has a lovely family feel from the moment you walk in the door.
If you know Annika, she is the ultimate hostess…dinner at their place was once an array of tapas better than anything I’ve had in Sydney, or Spain for that matter! There are always fresh flowers, some gorgeous french candles lit throughout the place and yummy soaps in the bathroom. For such a stunning family, there is a really special non-showy air about them and this comes through in their home as well. I’ve often been greeted by a sweats and t-shirt clad Annika at home, she just happens to look better than most of us in a top-knot with no make-up. I finally got around to capturing her and her two boys, Henry (3) & Archer (10 months) at home and I’m so happy I did.
There is a really gorgeous light that comes in through the California shutters to the living area where Annika and the boys spend a lot of time playing with toys, trains and probably watching Peppa Pig My favourite part has always been the stained glass window feature above the balcony doors.
The fact that they have a lush white linen sofa despite having two boys running around, really sums up what I love about them and this space; it’s not lacking little luxuries, yet it’s totally lived in, as a home should be!
Both Annika and Tom have pretty green thumbs; their outdoor area is full of fresh herbs and an impressive crawling jasmine vine, which will only get better over time.
